A 21-year-old man who died fighting for the Russian army in Ukraine has been identified as the son of a senior official in the CIA. Michael Gloss was killed on the front line in the eastern Donetsk region in April last year, Important Stories, a Russian investigative outlet, reported. He was the son of Juliane Gallina, the CIA deputy director for digital innovation, and Larry Gloss, a US navy veteran who took part in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War of the early 1990s. On social media and in online chats with members of the Rainbow Family, a countercultural group that traces its roots to the activism of the 1970s, Gloss spoke of his disgust with America. He wrote on Telegram: “When I finally figured out how the US political system works, I realised that violence is an integral part of it.” On Instagram, he posted a picture of himself putting up his finger to the US Capitol. Another post showed a burning American flag. Acquaintances of the former boy scout and high school lacrosse player said he was enraged by Israel’s war in Gaza and had become an avid consumer of conspiracy theories. According to Important Stories, he told one friend that Western hegemony was fading and that the future would be a “multipolar world” dominated by the Brics nations, a line familiar from Russian propaganda. Brics is an intergovernmental group comprising Russia, India, China, Iran and several other countries.
[...] In May 2023, he wrote online: “Mum was telling me I could just come back any time. She was trying to make me collapse and call her for a ticket home.” But he said he was set on his path. He said: “I find myself more and more alive by the minute. Hungry for blood and glory. “It will be a sad day for ItthoBa’al [a name he had adopted] when the club must be passed on to the next incarnation. But as of now, I might have just incarnated in time to defeat mortality AND the military industrial complex.” When asked how he planned to defeat the latter, he said people would not believe him if he said.
[...] By Sept 5, he had enrolled in the Russian military, and an entry with Michael Alexander Gloss’s data appears in the EMIAS medical database. His address was listed as that of a medical examination room given to foreign recruits, Important Stories reported. During training for the 137th airborne regiment in the city of Ryazan, he told fellow recruits that he wanted to gain Russian citizenship so he could pursue environmental infrastructure projects in the country, Important Stories reported. Videos posted by Nepalese and other foreign recruits show Gloss smiling with his head shaved. He told “Mert”, a Rainbow Family friend, that he joined not to fight but to gain a passport. In one message, he said: “My goal in life is to build an infrastructure for the oxidation of water in a supercritical state. To put an end to environmental pollution and the diseases and deaths associated with pollution, that is: cancer, lymphoma and all the hormonal problems associated with microplastics and estrogens in water.”

IoT Security Challenges in India: Protecting Smart Homes & Connected Devices
IoT is transforming the way people live by making their homes smart with devices such as security cameras, smart locks, and voice assistants. In India, IoT technology is adopted at a pace that cyber threats are rising rapidly. With weak security protocols, outdated software, and unawareness, Indian households are vulnerable to cyberattacks. In this blog, we will explore the major IoT security challenges in India and how individuals can safeguard their smart homes and connected devices. If you are looking to strengthen your understanding of cybersecurity, enrolling in a cyber security course can be a game-changer.
The IoT Boom in India
India is witnessing the highest adoption of IoT across homes and businesses. From smart TVs to intelligent thermostats, IoT is revolutionizing life. This booming technology, however, offers a large target size for hackers too who exploit the vulnerability of devices to gain unauthorized access to data.
Fundamental Drivers of IoT Adoption in India:
Increased internet penetration with low-priced data plans
Government initiatives such as Smart Cities Mission and Digital India
Increasing adoption of smart home devices as they become increasingly affordable
Growing application of industrial IoT in health, agriculture, and manufacturing
Chief IoT Security Challenges in India
Poor Authentication & Default Passwords
Most IoT devices have a factory-set password that the user ignores or fails to change. Hackers exploit these default credentials to take over the devices, entry private networks, and crack sensitive information.
Lack of Security Updates & Patches
Most smart devices have limited or no firmware updates, which makes them vulnerable to cyber threats. Many Indian consumers do not check for security updates, leaving their devices susceptible to known exploits.
Data Privacy Concerns
Smart devices collect vast amounts of personal data, from voice recordings to daily routines. Without stringent data protection policies, this information can be misused or leaked by malicious actors.
Botnet Attacks & DDoS Threats
Cybercriminals hijack unprotected IoT devices to form botnets, which are used to launch massive Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. These attacks can cripple networks and cause disruptions to online services.
Unsecured Wi-Fi Networks
Many Indian households rely on poorly secured Wi-Fi connections, providing an easy entry point for hackers. Without encryption or strong passwords, attackers can intercept sensitive information and compromise connected devices.
Absence of Specific Cybersecurity Legislation for IoT
India has advanced in data protection with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, but there is no dedicated IoT security framework. The absence of it leaves the manufacturer to choose cost over security and sell devices which are not so well protected in the market.
How to Secure Smart Homes & Connected Devices
Change Default Credentials
Always change the default usernames and passwords of the IoT after installation. Use strong, unique passwords and implement multi-factor authentication wherever possible.
Update Firmware Periodically
Scan for software and security updates on all smart devices, and install them as soon as they are available. In case your device can no longer get any updates, consider replacing it with a newer version that is at least as secure.
Secure Your Wi-Fi Network
Use a robust Wi-Fi password, and make sure WPA3 encryption is turned on. Limit remote access to your router, and make an IoT-specific network so that those devices can't contaminate your primary network.
Firewall & Security Solutions The use of firewalls and network security solutions monitors traffic and can block malicious activity on IoT networks. 5. Limit Data Sharing & Permissions
Assess permission for smart appliances and reduce or limit the devices from accessing unsecured personal information. De-activate unused add-ons, remote access in devices.
Cyber Security Courses
IoT-based cyber-attacks are minimized if awareness against the threat builds. To boost that awareness further, take time out to become a certified graduate of cyber security by signing for courses in areas like best security practices, principles of ethical hacking, and defending digital systems.
Road Ahead to Improving Indian IoT Security:
The Indian government, device manufacturers, and consumers must take proactive steps to mitigate IoT security risks. Stronger security standards, public awareness, and robust cybersecurity laws are the need of the hour to secure the future of IoT in India.
Conclusion
IoT devices offer incredible convenience but also introduce significant security risks. Protecting smart homes and connected devices requires a combination of best practices, awareness, and robust cybersecurity measures. By staying informed and adopting the right security strategies, individuals can ensure a safer IoT experience.
If you’re passionate about cybersecurity and want to build expertise in protecting digital systems, consider taking a cyber security course to gain hands-on knowledge and skills in ethical hacking, network security, and data protection.

In 2020, Nazia was working at a data entry office in Hyderabad, but dreamed of being a beautician. Then, on YouTube, she saw a video about Urban Company, a platform similar to the US site TaskRabbit, which promises to connect workers—plumbers, electricians, painters, beauticians, and others—with clients who need their services. Workers who join the platform as beauticians often pay upward of $500 to register and receive a salon equipment kit. For Nazia, it felt like an investment worth taking.
When it launched in 2014, Urban Company was revolutionary for India’s disjointed home services market, providing customers with vetted and trained workers through an easy-to-use interface. Nazia was one of tens of thousands of workers who joined the platform, which grew and grew thanks to consecutive rounds of fundraising from investors including Tiger Global and Prosus Ventures, becoming the largest home services provider in India, valued at almost $3 billion. Then it expanded into the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. In 2023, it launched in the US.
For workers it promised an opportunity to work flexibly, and earn well. In 2020, Fair Work, a research group that studies gig work companies, rated the company the best for workers in India, giving it a score of eight out of 10 on parameters that include fair pay and working conditions. (Uber scored one out of 10).
Nazia got stellar ratings and reviews from customers on the platform—so much so that she was invited to pay $300 to upgrade her account to Prime, which gave her access to better-paying jobs.
“Everything was going great,” she says. “With the money I made, I was able to help my family, buy a two-wheeler, and save money for my wedding.”
Urban Company fostered an identity for itself that was different from other gig work platforms, particularly for women. But since the start of the year, things have gone downhill, fast. Thousands of workers have found themselves arbitrarily dumped from the platform for not meeting new targets that they say have been set unattainably high. Nazia is among them. The platform, it seems, is subject to the same cycle of “enshittification” as its peers, sacrificing the incentives it had offered to get workers onto the platform in order to turn a profit—and abandoning its promises of flexibility in the process.
Urban Company declined to comment.
The first sign of trouble at Urban Company started in 2021, as the pandemic hit the home services business. The company slipped in Fairwork’s rankings, scoring five out of 10. Workers twice held protests demanding lower commissions and safer working conditions. After a media storm, Urban Company published a Medium blog introducing a “12 point program” to “improve partner earnings and livelihood”—which included lowering commissions and introducing an SOS helpline for women’s safety. In an attempt to be more transparent, the company started publishing a partner earnings index, but it also filed lawsuits against four protesters for “illegal and unlawful” actions.
But things got really difficult for Urban Company’s workers in 2023. The platform introduced a new rule stipulating that workers had to maintain an acceptance rate of at least 70 percent, a customer rating of at least 4.7 out of 5, and cancel fewer than four jobs per month. Failure meant being blocked from the app. Nazia managed to keep her ratings above 4.8 until May 2023, when they slipped to 4.69. She was temporarily blocked and put into “retraining”—an online video course followed by 10 bookings that she had to take free of charge in an attempt to boost her rating. Unfortunately, for Nazia, her rating did not budge from 4.69. Since then, she’s been out of work.
“It all happened so quickly,” Nazia says. Now she’s stuck with $2,500 in loans.
I spoke to more than a dozen women like Nazia, all of whom asked for anonymity to protect themselves from retribution and say they were blocked by the platform after failing to meet what they believe were unrealistic expectations.
In Bengaluru, Shabnam—who used a friend’s credit card to pay the $500 joining fee—found that Urban Company started assigning her jobs farther and farther away from home. With rising costs and high commissions, taking these distant trips was “as good as earning nothing,” she says. She turned down the jobs that weren’t economically viable, and soon her response rate—the number of jobs she accepted—dropped to 20 percent. In June, she was dropped from the platform.
Seema, who had worked for Urban Company for five years, had a miscarriage earlier this year. As she was being rushed to the hospital, she didn’t have time to mark in the Urban Company app that she wasn’t able to work that day. Her acceptance rate of bookings fell to 30 percent. She couldn’t get her rate back up to the mandated 80 percent, and she was permanently suspended from the platform. “I went to the office with the doctor’s prescription and everything. They still did not agree to reinstate my account,” Seema says.
In Hyderabad, Sunanda says her account was deactivated earlier this year after a death in the family meant she had to cancel some jobs. She pleaded with a company representative on its helpline and in person—she even submitted the death certificate, but she’s still blocked. “They said they cannot reinstate my account because my rating is not 4.7 or above. I told them my rating is 4.69 and if they give me a chance I will bring it back up, but they refused,” Sunanda, 42, said. “They have given the customers this one weapon: ratings.”
As well as the stick of targets and quotas, Urban Company also offered a carrot for workers: shares in the business.
In 2022, the company announced its Partner Stock Options Program (PSOP), granting shares worth $18 million over the next five to seven years. The following November, they awarded stocks worth approximately $635,000 to 500 partners. But while the PSOPs seemed to be almost guaranteed for workers, the process of accessing them is heavily gamified.
Pratima, an Urban Company beautician, was very excited at the end of 2022 when she realized she’d made it to the top 10 list of workers in her category in Bengaluru. If she continued to stay in the top 10 until April, she was told she’d be granted the company’s stock options that following November. “They call us partners, but don’t treat us like it,” said Pratima, requesting to be referred to under a pseudonym. “I was hoping that if I get a share in the company, maybe then I will be treated like a partner.”
By February, Pratima had completed more than 200 jobs, and she was still in the top 10. Then, a series of low ratings by disgruntled customers pulled down her overall rating, blocking her temporarily and dropping her off the leaderboard. She kept at it, worked back-to-back jobs, and got herself unblocked and back into the rankings. April came around, and she was in the top 10. But then the company seemed to have extended the contest—the leaderboard has kept on counting, but the workers don’t know what’s going on. “It’s like they are making us run a marathon in the name of shares,” she says.
For women who were sold Urban Company’s promises of flexibility and empowerment, the shock of losing their livelihood or being forced to work longer and longer hours has been exacerbated by a sense of betrayal.
“For women especially, a lot of times they have care responsibilities at home, and so there’s hope to find work that’s flexible, that allows them to pick up their kids from school or take junior to the doctor,” says Alexandrea Ravenelle, an author of two books on gig work and a sociology assistant professor at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. “A lot of these platforms are playing off of that need for flexibility because, for many of the workers who are coming to these platforms, an alternative isn’t a white-collar job in a tech office where they can bring the play pen and set the kid up.”
The mismatch between the promise of these platforms and their reality becomes clear when the businesses move from their early growth phase, in which they are able to burn investors’ cash, to one where they have to start to turn a profit.
When two-sided marketplaces that match workers with clients grow, they try to make things as comfortable as possible for workers to create a deep pool of available services. “The shortcut way to do this is to offer incentives to them—be it sellers, drivers, or other gig workers—showing them that this is a lucrative business,” says Rutvik Doshi, a general partner at VC firm Athera Venture Partners.
Companies spend big on marketing as they try to grow as fast as possible (during the 2021–2022 financial year, Urban Company spent close to $30 million on marketing and clocked a loss of over $60 million), working on the assumption that one day the demand for their services will become organic, the suppliers will start making enough money without incentives, and the platform will be able to raise the commissions it takes off its workers.
But when this doesn’t happen, companies desperately rework their models. When they need to curb spending, or when they struggle to raise new funding, marketing is the first thing they cut. Demand drops, creating an oversupply of workers on the platform. “And the excessive supply on the platforms feels the pinch. That’s the typical cycle with a two-sided marketplace,” Doshi says.
On July 10, Urban Company CEO Abhiraj Bahl released a video to the company’s workers explaining the new strict policies. He said that each year, 45 percent of customers use the platform just once and don’t make a second booking, while 15 to 20 percent of workers leave. “And as a result of all of this, Urban Company is still a loss-making company,” he said in the video, part of which has been viewed by WIRED. “So we are losing customers and we are also losing money.”
He blamed the decline in customers on “poor quality service” and “off-platform jobs”—that is, workers making private arrangements with clients and taking their work off Urban Company, something that’s a serious risk to the company’s model. “It’s kind of an existential question: They need the workers and the customers to stay on their platform in order to remain an intermediary,” says Ambika Tandon, a tech and labor researcher at the Center for Internet and Society think tank.
All of this has led the company to push its workers into a mold that essentially has all the downsides of regular employment but few of the benefits. For workers who joined the platform for its flexibility and autonomy, this reality of platform work becomes difficult to reconcile with.
“Urban Company is trying to imagine an ideal worker for this particular model to be someone who is always available, gives their 100 percent, [doesn’t] cancel at all, has no family responsibilities,” Tandon says. “But a lot of these workers are single parents, who have family responsibility and children to take care of. These are not folks who will fit into this model of having a 80 percent, 90 percent acceptance rate.”
In June, WhatsApp groups used by Urban Company workers were flooded with messages about one of their peers, who had reportedly died by suicide after the company deactivated her account—leaving her with no source of income. Several workers I spoke with said that while the news was shocking, none of them knew the victim. “We were vexed,” Seema from Bengaluru says, “But the problem is that all of us are so isolated from each other. The platform doesn’t have any get-togethers, nothing. We all don’t have any relationships, which is a plus point for Urban Company.”
But, like their peers across the platform economy, Urban Company workers are now getting organized. In June and July, hundreds of Urban Company workers took to the streets in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Kolkata. Shabnam was present at one of the protests last month in Bengaluru, demanding that the company reinstate her account. With this, they have joined thousands of Indian gig workers from Uber, Ola, Swiggy, Blinkit and more.
There have been at least half a dozen such protests across different cities in India since the beginning of the year—all of them essentially fighting for the same reasons: better pay and working conditions, a ban on unfair practices, and laws governing gig work that workers can lean on for safety and protection. “It’s not just Urban Company that has been blocking accounts,” said Shaik Salauddin, founder of Telangana Gig and Platform Worker Union. “Ola, Uber, Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon, Flipkart—all aggregator companies are doing this.”
Rikta Krishnaswamy, a coordinator with the All India Gig Workers Union, said that the union has had conversations with the labor departments across different cities, including Delhi and Pune. Another meeting is coming up in Mumbai. “We have raised complaints against these illegal dismissals, and the labor departments in Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram have sent notices to the company for a meeting,” she said. “Let’s see if they actually show up.”
Some of the workers whose accounts were blocked have been able to get it reinstated, provided their rating was not lower than 4.7 and they weren’t blocked for trust and safety issues. But, if the video shared by Bahl is any indication, things are only going to get worse by the end of the year. The company has launched a salon quality improvement program called Project Shakti, under which, by December, the performance metrics are going to get even stricter for beauticians: an acceptance rate greater than 80 percent, no more than three monthly cancellations, and “100 percent orders delivered on UC app only.” The rating threshold will continue to be at a minimum of 4.7.
The new policy is being hammered home. Workers whose accounts have been reinstated and those already active on the platform are being called for a meeting to the Urban Company office in small groups of around 10. Some have to watch Bahl’s video. Then they are presented with new terms and conditions to sign, which include consent for them to be permanently blocked from the platform if they miss their targets.

How Much Does It Cost to Launch a Fantasy Sports App?
In today’s tech-savvy world, fantasy sports apps are dominating the online gaming and sports ecosystem. As more fans look to engage deeper with their favorite sports, fantasy platforms offer an exciting way to combine strategy, competition, and rewards. If you’re a startup or business exploring this lucrative niche, one of the first questions you’ll ask is: how much does it cost to develop a fantasy sports app?
The answer depends on various factors, including the app’s complexity, platform, features, and development team. This article breaks down the essential components involved in building a fantasy sports app and provides a detailed cost estimation to help you plan effectively.
Why Invest in a Fantasy Sports App?
Fantasy sports apps have seen explosive growth in recent years. With millions of users participating in fantasy football, cricket, basketball, and more, the market has evolved into a multibillion-dollar industry. The success of platforms like Dream11, ESPN Fantasy, and Yahoo Fantasy has inspired entrepreneurs to tap into this rapidly growing sector.
Apart from fan engagement, fantasy sports apps generate revenue through entry fees, ads, sponsorships, in-app purchases, and subscriptions — making them a profitable business model.
Key Factors Affecting Fantasy Sports App Development Cost
When estimating the total cost, multiple aspects influence the budget. Here are some of the primary cost drivers:
1. Platform Choice
Android, iOS, or both? Building for a single platform is cheaper. However, most businesses opt for cross-platform development to reach a wider audience.
Estimated cost impact: $10,000–$20,000 per platform
2. App Complexity
A basic app with essential features will cost less.
A highly advanced app with AI-driven predictions, real-time analytics, and social elements will require a higher investment.
3. UI/UX Design
The user interface and experience play a critical role in app success.
A visually rich and user-friendly app design increases cost but improves retention.
4. Backend Development
Robust backend infrastructure is crucial to handle real-time data updates, user management, and game scoring.
5. Third-party API Integration
APIs for live match data, payment gateways, push notifications, and social media logins can add to the cost.
6. Development Team Location
Hiring developers from North America or Europe can be expensive, while outsourcing to regions like India can offer cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality.
Must-Have Fantasy Sports App Features
To create an engaging and competitive app, here are some essential fantasy sports app features that users expect:
User Registration & Login
Allow users to sign up via email, phone number, or social media platforms.
Home Dashboard
Display upcoming matches, contests, user balance, and promotions in one place.
Contest Creation & Joining
Enable users to join or create contests, both public and private.
Team Management
Users should be able to draft, edit, and view their fantasy teams before deadlines.
Live Match Updates
Real-time scoring and player performance tracking.
Leaderboard & Winnings
Display rankings, rewards, and winnings clearly and attractively.
Wallet & Payment Integration
Facilitate secure deposits and withdrawals through trusted gateways.
Push Notifications
Send timely alerts about match starts, results, contests, and offers.
Admin Panel
Manage users, contests, payouts, and reports from the backend.
Estimated Cost to Launch a Fantasy Sports App
Here’s a general breakdown of the cost based on complexity and region:
Note: These costs include design, development, testing, and deployment. Ongoing maintenance and updates are additional and crucial for long-term success.
Additional Cost Considerations
Beyond development, here are some additional investments to consider:
Marketing & User Acquisition: $5,000 – $15,000 (initial stage)
Legal & Compliance: Fantasy gaming regulations vary by region; consulting with legal experts may cost extra.
Maintenance & Support: Typically 15–20% of the initial development cost annually.
Final Thoughts: Is It Worth the Investment?
Building a fantasy sports app in 2025 is a lucrative opportunity, but understanding the full scope of the investment is essential. With the right team and a clear monetization plan, the returns can be substantial. Whether you're targeting cricket, football, basketball, or niche sports, launching a robust and engaging platform can give you a strong foothold in the fantasy gaming industry.
If you're serious about entering the market, partner with an experienced development firm like BR Softech. They specialize in fantasy sports app development and can help you craft a tailored, feature-rich solution that aligns with your vision and budget.

Why Indian Cosmetic Exporters Must Work with Labs for SABER Compliance?
As India emerges as a global hub for cosmetics and personal care products, exporters are increasingly looking to expand into lucrative Middle Eastern markets, particularly Saudi Arabia. However, accessing this high-demand market comes with regulatory challenges. One of the most critical is obtaining a SABER Certificate, issued under the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO).
For Indian cosmetic exporters, working with accredited testing labs is not optional—it’s essential for SABER compliance and smooth entry into the Saudi market. In this article, we explore why cosmetic exporters must partner with labs, the process for SABER certification, and how lab involvement ensures both compliance and credibility.
What Is a SABER Certificate?
The SABER platform is an online system developed by SASO to manage the Product Conformity Assessment Program. Every product entering Saudi Arabia must be registered on the SABER portal and must comply with the country’s technical regulations.
There are two main certifications required:
Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC): Valid for one year per product, confirming the product meets relevant technical standards.
Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC): Required for each shipment, ensuring consistency with certified products.
In the cosmetics industry, where product safety, ingredient compliance, and shelf-life are highly regulated, testing plays a crucial role in SABER compliance.
Why Cosmetics Require Special Attention in SABER Compliance
Cosmetics are directly applied to the skin, hair, and body, making health and safety concerns paramount. Saudi Arabia has adopted stringent regulations aligned with GCC and international cosmetic standards, covering:
Ingredient restrictions (e.g., banned substances)
Microbiological safety
pH balance
Heavy metal content
Labeling and packaging standards
These requirements cannot be self-declared. Testing from a recognized lab is necessary to demonstrate compliance before applying for a SABER Certificate.
The Role of Testing Labs in SABER Certification for Cosmetics
1. Product Safety Testing
Labs test cosmetic products to verify:
Absence of restricted ingredients
Acceptable levels of heavy metals like lead, arsenic, and mercury
Stability and shelf life under different conditions
Microbiological safety to prevent contamination
These test results form the foundation for the Product Certificate of Conformity.
2. Labeling & INCI Verification
Testing labs also help verify that:
All ingredients are listed according to INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients)
Arabic and English labeling meet SASO requirements
Expiry dates, batch codes, and warnings are clearly stated
This ensures compliance during customs inspection.
3. Documentation Support
Indian testing labs familiar with SABER often provide:
Test reports in acceptable format
Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Product Information Files (PIFs)
Ingredient declarations
Proper documentation minimizes approval delays from Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs).
4. Faster PCoC and SCoC Approvals
Labs that are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and experienced in SABER-related testing are often preferred by CABs. Their test reports are trusted, enabling faster issuance of:
PCoC (valid for 1 year)
SCoC (required for each shipment)
Step-by-Step Process for Cosmetic SABER Certification with Lab Support
Step 1: Product Classification
The first step is identifying if the cosmetic product falls under regulated categories (most do). Common regulated products include:
Creams and lotions
Hair care and styling products
Perfumes and deodorants
Lipsticks and eyeliners
Skin lightening creams
Step 2: Register on the SABER Portal
The exporter or Saudi importer must create an account on the SABER portal and:
Select the appropriate product category
Choose a SASO-approved Conformity Assessment Body (CAB)
Upload product data and lab reports
Step 3: Testing the Product in an Approved Lab
Indian exporters should work with labs accredited to perform:
Heavy metal and chemical composition analysis
Microbiological testing
Stability and pH testing
Labeling verification
Ensure the lab issues reports in English and Arabic, and in a SASO-acceptable format.
Step 4: Apply for Product Certificate of Conformity (PCoC)
Submit all lab reports, documents, and product details to the CAB. Upon successful verification, the PCoC is issued and is valid for one year.
Step 5: Apply for Shipment Certificate of Conformity (SCoC)
Every shipment must be registered on the SABER portal for SCoC approval. No cosmetic product can enter Saudi Arabia without this certificate.
Why Indian Cosmetic Exporters Must Prioritize Lab Testing
1. Avoid Customs Delays and Rejections
Without valid lab reports and SABER certificates, shipments can be:
Delayed at Saudi ports
Rejected or returned
Subject to financial penalties
2. Ensure Ingredient Compliance
Saudi regulations ban or restrict the use of certain substances (e.g., hydroquinone, formaldehyde). Only lab testing can confirm compliance.
3. Meet Shelf-Life and Stability Expectations
Products must demonstrate shelf-life under Saudi conditions (high temperatures, humidity). Stability testing by labs ensures your product will remain safe and effective throughout its lifecycle.
4. Build Trust with Saudi Distributors and Consumers
Compliant products with proper certification boost trust and improve marketability. Distributors prefer brands that are SABER-ready.
5. Faster Market Entry
Working with experienced labs ensures quicker documentation, smoother communication with CABs, and faster approval times.
Leading Indian Testing Labs for Cosmetic SABER Compliance
Several NABL-accredited and ISO-certified labs in India support cosmetic exporters with SABER-related testing, such as:
Intertek India
SGS India
Eurofins
TUV India
METS Laboratories
Bureau Veritas India
These labs provide comprehensive cosmetic testing and documentation aligned with SASO and GCC standards.
Tips for Cosmetic Exporters in India
Choose labs familiar with GSO 1943/2016 and SASO standards
Maintain updated SDS and Product Information Files
Bundle similar products for combined certification (if allowed)
Work closely with your Saudi importer to manage SABER registrations
Stay informed about changes in Saudi cosmetic regulations
Conclusion
As the demand for Indian-made cosmetics grows in Saudi Arabia, regulatory compliance through the SABER Certificate has become a non-negotiable requirement. Indian exporters must prioritize product testing and documentation by working with reputable testing labs to meet SASO’s rigorous standards.
By investing in lab-based compliance, cosmetic exporters not only avoid customs delays and product rejections but also enhance brand credibility, build trust with Saudi partners, and achieve faster market penetration in one of the world’s most promising consumer markets.
